Practice/Experience:
Mr. Miller is a retired attorney of our firm. He has had extensive experience in the management and preparation of all phases of complex commercial, banking, finance, securities, intellectual property, real estate, environmental, labor, ERISA, and construction cases. His trials include both jury and non-jury cases; some of his trials have lasted several months. He has tried scores of commercial cases during his career, including five leading cases before the Washington Supreme Court. Clients have retained him to handle cases in Alaska, California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Puerto Rico, as well as Washington.
Education and Professional Activities:
Mr. Miller received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in Philosophy from Yale University in 1965, and his law degree from the Yale Law School in 1968. He was awarded full academic scholarships for all of his undergraduate and law school education. He is a member of the American, Washington State and King County Bar Associations.
Speaking and seminar engagements have included frequent appearances on the faculty of American Law Institute-American Bar Association conferences on litigation tactics held throughout the United States. He has been a member of the Section of Litigation and of the Section of Business Law of the American Bar Association. He has been past Washington State Chairman of the ABA Committee on Litigation Involving Commercial Transactions. He has served as a member of the Board of Bar Examiners, and on the Court Rules, Judicial Selection, and Legislative Committees of the Washington State Bar Association.
Community and Civic Activities:
Mr. Miller is currently Vice Chairman and one of the directors of the Housing Resources Board of Bainbridge Island, a non-profit corporation that provides affordable housing. He is a member and past president of the Yale Alumni Association of Western Washington, and also a member and past president of the Yale Law School Association of Western Washington. He was a member of the Washington Business, Industrial & Community Leaders Goodwill Delegation to the Soviet Union and the Peoples Republic of China led by Secretary of State Ralph Munro in 1984. He has served as Counsel to the Executive Committee of the Washington Council on Child Abuse and Neglect, and the Children's Trust Foundation. He has served as a member and as Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Board of Directors of the Children's Trust Foundation. Mr. Miller has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Medina Children's Service. He has served on the Gazzam Lake Park Stewardship Committee of the Bainbridge Island Park District. He is currently a member and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bainbridge Island Housing Resources Board, a non-profit entity that owns, manages and advocates the development and preservation of affordable housing.
